Exchanging knowledge and ideas

The exchange of knowledge and ideas is a very important part of studying and doing research. People always had to communicate in some way to make discoveries or work on a theoretical basis. The exchange of ideas and knowledge can be done in many different ways and modern technologies make it simpler and quicker.

Hundreds of years ago people only had two ways to communicate and exchange their knowledge. They either had to talk in person to other researchers or they had to write their ideas down. Their knowledge was written down in books for future generations to use. Some people also communicated through letters to exchange ideas with others. This took a very long time and sometimes the other person simply would not get the letter.

The invention of the telephone made this much easier. People could talk over a long distance with each other without having to meet face to face. This saved a lot of time and the quick exchange of ideas made research progress easier to get. Until today people communicate over the phone a lot but short messages became more and more important in people’s everyday life.

The internet is basically is huge selection of knowledge which can be looked up by a large number of people. All of the important work and research done in the past can be found online. That makes getting knowledge quicker and easier for everybody. In addition, people can communicate through the internet by using emails or other message systems. Ideas can be shared within seconds and the data can be stored as well. Researchers from all over the world can get in contact with each other and can work on a project without even meeting face to face.

LAN connections are much more secure than using the internet. Hackers can get into ones email account or other data. Therefore large companies and research facilities use the Ethernet to communicate within the facility. This saves a lot of time because people do not have to go from one person to another to share information. It is very simple but also very useful.
